Treasure, Talent & Time

There are three things that we can give to God this year. Our TREASURE, our TALENT and our TIME. Each of these is given to us by our Father God and each of them should be given back with thanksgiving and joy.

First thing then my brother is our TREASURE and Jesus said about this in Matthew 6v21 ...... "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". In other words, where we put our treasure our hearts will follow. So I ask you this question this morning "do you want your heart to be in the things of God?" Then put your treasure in the things of God!!!!

The second thing that we can give to God is our TALENTS. For God has gifted each one of us, His children in all sorts of ways, preaching, teaching, hospitality are just to name a few. Everyone has something to offer for the work of His people, His church and His kingdom as Romans 12 says ...... "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying. When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you, be happy with those who are happy and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all. Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honourable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge, leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the scriptures say "I will take revenge, I will pay them back says the Lord". Instead "if your enemies are hungry feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads. Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good".

Finally there is our TIME.

Now let's say that one day your phone rang and it was the manager of your bank and he told you that an anonymous donor who loved you very much had decided to place 86,400 pennies into your account each and every day. At first that didn't seem a lot. But then you worked it out that it was £864 pounds a day. At 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year those pennies added up to almost £315,000 pounds each year. But the bank manager added one thing. "That the anonymous giver said that you must spend all of the money on the day that you received it. NO balance will be carried over to the next day. Each evening the bank must cancel whatever amount you failed to USE!!!!

Remember, what you don't spend is lost.

Now that may sound like fantasy, but here my dear brother is the REALITY. Every morning, someone who loves you very much deposits into your "BANK OF TIME" 86,400 seconds, which represents 1,440 minutes, which of course equals 24 hours each and every day.

God gives you that much to use each day. Nothing is carried over on credit to the next day. And there is no such thing as a 27 hour day or more.

For its called TIME and you can't escape it. And time is ticking away right now.

The bible tells us in Ephesians 5v15-16 ....... "So be careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honourable with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your time for His purpose".

As Psalm 90v12 says ...... "So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom".

So, offer God your TREASURE, your TALENT and your TIME. Live this year as if it was your last, because it could be. AND MAKE THOSE MINUTES COUNT.
